Donetsk Christian University’s Bachelor of Theology program was instituted in 1993. Seven years later the program was fully accredited by the Euro-Asian Accreditation Association (EAAA). DCU maintains the endorsement in good standing up through the present time.
Purpose
The Bachelor of Theology Program is designed for students who wish to both further their existing knowledge and become more adept at investigating the Holy Scriptures and Christian theology and its effective exposition (both verbal and written) that leads to the growth of God’s Kingdom here on earth.
Objectives
The goals of the Bachelor of Theology Program are manifold and include the following points of intent: to encourage the spiritual formation of students as they strive to become valuable Christian workers; to teach the basics of Biblical languages; to broaden and deepen their awareness and discernment of the Bible’s contents; and to lay a solid foundation from which will flourish the disciplines of Biblical interpretation, theoretical and practical theology, theological research, Christian history, missions, and a range of humanitarian disciplines (including the English language). Further purposes include: putting theoretical knowledge to practical use in ministries of and for the evangelical church; to enlarge the scope of missions’ work; to cultivate in students the ability to assess their surroundings from a theological perspective; and to instill in them motivation to actively develop their Christian character.
Philosophy of Education
This program requires four years of full time, on-campus study, including a summer program of pedagogical practice. It consists of lectures and seminars; prayer meetings and seminars for spiritual edification; cultural and social activities; personal research studies in the process of writing a theological thesis; a practicum to be served either in churches, a missions’ field, and/or parachurch organizations, as well as other forms of education.
In the first two years of study, students receive reinforcement of their basic Biblical understanding, and they work to develop spiritual fortitude. The academic focus of these first two years is on language studies. In addition, students acquire study and research skills.
During the latter two years of study, students must demonstrate the knowledge they’ve gained from exegesis of original Biblical texts. In addition, humanitarian disciplines (with the primary focus on theology) are being learned. During their senior year students research a chosen topic under the supervision of an academic mentor.
