The program “bachelor of church ministry” was formed in 2003 as an answer to the need to educate people in ministry without removing them for long periods of time from their churches, work, and ministry. This part-time program was created in accordance with the standards of the EAAA (Euro-Asian Accreditation Association). The program involves studying three times per year for two weeks each over the course of five years.
To prepare students for effective ministry in the local church.
Objectives
To give a theological higher education (to widen and deepen the knowledge and understanding of the Bible, to give a foundation for Biblical interpretation, theoretical and practical theology, the history of the church and theology, missiology, counseling, ministry and general liberal arts education).
To help gain and develop practical skills in the areas of Biblical interpretation, Christian leadership, oral communication, practical church ministry and counseling.
To develop the desire to actively minister in the local church as appropriate with one’s personal gifts and calling. To enable personal spiritual growth.
Philosophy of Education
The program is based on five years of part-time study, including lectures, seminars, completing reading and written work assigned between sessions, meeting with those active in church ministry, and participating in practical ministry in a local church, mission, or para-church organization. The education process begins with basic theological courses and moves to more specialized courses for the church ministry degree (such as homiletics, counseling, and leadership).
Over the course of the first two years, students learn the basic skills of studying and research, receive and deepen their knowledge in the areas of New and Old Testament, systematic theology, practical theology, and several humanitarian disciplines.
Over the course of the last three years, students receive knowledge in the area of their specialized program and continue their studies in humanitarian disciplines. In this period of their studies, students study books of the Old and New Testaments and participate in various seminars. At the end of their program, students write a final course paper on a theme proposed by the student and accepted by DCU. Practical ministry goes on between class sessions over the course of the entire program.
